Southern Suns
2025
Southern Suns is a living archival project, dedicated to illuminating the lives and legacies of Southern, Black American women—especially those from the Flournoy and Smith maternal lines. Through photographs, oral histories, and personal artifacts, this project aims to weave together and preserve generations of memory, resilience, and heritage. While Southern Suns pays special tribute to my own matriarchal lineage, it also exists as an open love letter and invitation to all—to witness, explore, and remember the lives of the women who have shaped us, both Earthside and in spirit.
In rememberance of my direct ancestors, and others such as, but not limited to: Audre Lorde, Assata Shakur, Zora Neale Hurston, Faith Ringgold, and Toni Morrison. Inspired by the works of: Saint Heron, Shantrelle P. Lewis, Theaster Gates, Tre Seals, and Renata Cherlise.
